Letters From Greta
Greta Van Susteren became a household name as a CNN legal analyst during the O.J. Simpson trial nearly a decade ago, and today she hosts the highest rated cable news program in its time slot, Fox News’ On the Record With Greta Van Susteren. Not bad for an Appleton girl who fondly recalls cruising College Avenue and getting her picture taken with Paul Hornung at Conkey’s Bookstore. More...

Frozen Summer
On August 17, 1993, a college coed who was loved and admired by all who knew her was found murdered in a Stevens Point hotel room.

Her shocking death, and the wave of terror perpetrated by her killer, would become known as Portage County’s crime of the century.

The following is an excerpt from Frozen Summer, a non-fiction account of the crime.

True Crime: The Story of the Snow Queen
On a cold March day in 1993, a Wisconsin Rapids man stood alone on County Road W in Portage County. He wore nothing but his socks. The man cupped his hands over his genitals for warmth and dignity -- he needed both desperately. The Snow Queen had struck again.

Aneb Jah Rasta, Independent candidate for governor, received 939 votes in his bid for the statehouse, falling shy of victory. Visit Door County: Beaches, Lighthouses, Despair, Suicide
Door County's story is the kind classicwisconsin loves -- tales of rugged individualists from days long before fudge shops and boutiques. Man versus the elements, nothing more, nothing less. And drunken sailors too.

The icon of that lost age is the lighthouse... More!

Valley of the Molls
In John Dillinger's heyday of 1934, the mere mention of his name could incite widespread panic, sometimes with comical results.

That's exactly what happened in Madison, Wisconsin.

Valley of the Molls recounts the hysteria that befell Wisconsin's sophisticated university and government town when Dillinger and his gang were expected to spring three gang "molls" from the local jail. The story is complete with dueling newspapers, mysterious federal agents, mistaken identities, a crafty local sheriff, and three anonymous women caught in the eye of a massive manhunt...

The Birds
There's a big swamp in south-central Wisconsin. It's called the Horicon Marsh. For those of us who don't know our ass from a Yellow Rumped Warbler, a marsh tour is good way to learn more about this important wetland. You just might bump into the ol' swamper who made this place the international destination it is today... The Birds

Hayward
Family Values

In timber sports it's called the "boom run." Starting from a sprinters' position on a dock, competitors run across eight floating logs extended end-to-end -- about 30 yards -- before leaping onto the opposing dock, spinning around, and racing back. Most of us break a sweat just thinking about sprinting 60 yards...
